FAIR Replacements
FAIR uses implants to restore an entire arch (upper, lower, or both) with a restoration that is permanently or semi-permanently attached to and supported by the implants. There is no need to remove anything at night with this option, and it looks and feels like natural teeth. This option is the most analogous to the widely advertised concepts of Teeth-in-a-day or All-on-X. The difference between us and the big chains, however, is that this is not our only option, as in “this is our hammer, and every patient’s a nail.” We customize the number of implants and locations for an individual patient, as well as having options for the nuances of the type of restoration we use. Regardless, FAIR represents the closest solution to natural teeth, requires the most planning, the most complex materials, and the most time, and thus it also represents the greatest financial commitment on the part of our patient. Overdentures
Another option for full arch teeth replacement is an implant-retained overdenture. This uses strategically placed implants to keep a traditional denture in place using a stable male-female connection to the implants. It is still removeable by the patient, which is some cases is actually an advantage and preferable. Sometimes the overdenture support can even be accomplished without the need for a new set of dentures. This is a great option for patients who want a cost-effective option for drastically improving their denture-wearing experience, especially for lower dentures, which are notoriously problematic without the help of implants. Generally speaking, though, we usually prefer a new, nicely fitting denture as the basis for this solution. Regardless, implant retention can literally be the difference between a denture that actually looks great and functions well, vs. one that comes out at mealtime because it doesn’t work, or worse yet, lives its entire life in a drawer because it never fit right or worked well.
